SANGUSS

craft-crossing innovation in building chemistry

Approximately 80% of all media walls that have been built in the last 5 years do not meet criteria of sufficient fire and noise protection. SANGUSS project has been started within the network of Chemie-Cluster Bayern to introduce a new technology of filling those media walls with SANGUSS - a substance made from recycled glass components, which in the normal glass recycling process are treated as waste. The use of this substance will sustainably increase both quality of life (safety, noise emission) and efficiency in the building sector by close cooperation of different crafts in the fields of sanitary, heating bricklaying etc.

SANGUSS filling largely consists of PORAVER foam glass that itself has been produced from glass waste that is not suited for the conventional glass recycling process. SANGUSS-constructed walls offer tremendous advantages in respect to hygiene, noise protection, fire protection and structural stability. This 3 year's project is a craft crossing cooperation to optimize SANGUSS technology, including certification processes, and to build up a training network of SANGUSS construction teams in order to bring this sustainable building material on the market.

SANGUSS project is expected to be

  • Improving noise, fire and dampness protection, statics and hygiene in public and private buildings
  • Improving craft crossing cooperation within the construction sector
  • Sustainability: Optimizing the raw material cycle of glass
  • Creating competitive advantages on a European level by increased building efficiency

The project shall optimize SANGUSS building technology system by optimizing the mixture of the substance, cooperating with different crafts within a training network and discuss the technology with public and private players in the building sector. SANGUSS shall also give an example of competitive eco-innovation in building chemistry, this is why the project includes three European conferences about sustainable innovation in construction materials.
